ENTRY FEES & DEADLINES
New Divisions this Year - 2011 Paddle & Portage Classes/Divisions New Awards Process - We will only be handing out ribbons to the Top 5 Overall on-site on race day. This will help make the awards process more accurate, the remaining award winners will be mailed their ribbons a few weeks later. Participants will be allowed the week following the race to dispute or questions any timing results. Shuttle - A shuttle is again being provided by Badger Bus, similar to 2010. Wave Start begins at 9:00am. 100 boats maximum per wave, 5 minutes between waves. All boats start on the beach. Post Race:

COMPETITION
General Rules:
1. Coast Guard approved life jackets must be worn in the manner in which they were designed by each person in the canoe at
all times the canoe is in the water.
2. No portage device may extend more than 2" beyond the gunnel or end cap of the canoe - no wheels (except Kayaks).
3. Canoes must be carried across land.
4. No more than 2 people per canoe allowed.
5. Double-bladed paddles are allowed for kayakers only.
6. U.S. Canoe Association rules do not apply.
7. Paddle & Portage participants must obey safety and traffic directions of race officials and police throughout the race.
COURSE:
Paddlers will begin in Lake Mendota at James Madison Park & paddle a counter clock-wise course, portage up N. Hamilton St., left on Pinckney, down King St., to E. Wilson St., to Blair St. - a distance of 1.0 miles - enter Lake Monona at Law Park, and race a 1.5 mile course that finishes at Olin Park. All distances will be laid out with GPS. All racers must complete the race in 1 hour, 40 minutes to be counted in the official results.
